This week’s theme seems to be sin. It’s been on my heart because it touches our lives each and every day. Perhaps we aren’t struggling with sin today, but we may find ourselves there tomorrow. As much as I try to stay away from writing about sin, the reality is that it is everywhere. We are flawed humans and we sin. But the good news is, we are also forgiven. This week’s prayer focus is toward our own heart. David continually sought the Lord and asked for Him to reveal the sin in his heart. He was mindful of his own ability to fall away. And so he prayed…
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!”
(Psalm 139:23 ESV)
Before we can ask for forgiveness, we need to recognize our sin. It is tremendously liberating to lay our hearts before our Father and ask Him to search us. He gently brings to mind those things that are weighing us down and graciously forgives us. We are relieved from carrying that burden.
So today, I encourage you to take some time before the Lord and ask Him to search your heart. Ask Him to show you the sin that has crept in and ask Him for forgiveness. Then receive His cleansing.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
(1 John 1:9 ESV)
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
