This week is chock full of appreciation. We have “Nurses Appreciation” along with “Teacher Appreciation”. Both are wonderful opportunities to honor those who serve us. No matter your age, you never forget your favorite teacher. They leave an impression for a lifetime. Usually it’s someone who believed in you, encouraged you or simply made you feel special.
Nurses carry the same adoration. Each of us has been taken care of by a nurse at some point in our lives. If you’ve ever gone to the doctor or had to be in the hospital, your needs have been met by that unsung hero, the nurse. She/he often treats each patient with care being sure you’re as comfortable as can be expected. She/he knows the fear and pain you must be dealing with. Her/him compassion is what drives her/him.
This weekend we celebrate Mother’s day. This holds a special place in my heart because my kids mean the world to me. Yesterday, my daughter came home and told me that some of her classmates don’t have Moms. One boy lives with his grandpa and another boy said his Mom was in jail in another state. My heart grieves for the children in the world without someone to care for them as only a Mom can. Even more so, I the thought of those Moms who can’t be with their children when they long to, breaks my heart.
This week’s prayer focus is for Moms. We know them. We are them. We know raising children, keeping a home and being a wife is a demanding job. Not one of us would give it up for all the money in the world. Pray for those around you on the same journey. Be an encouragement to someone who feels overwhelmed. Be a spiritual Mom to someone who needs to be discipled. But mostly, pray.
