“How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!” (Psalm 139:17 NIV)

I came to the door expecting to politely tell the woman I was not interested in anything she was selling. I wasn’t in the mood to even listen to her pitch. I have had to deny others before, so I knew how to delicately handle the situation. As I stood listening, I knew there was something different about this woman. She wasn’t just selling something; she had something to give away as well.

She was a missionary from Hungary who was ministering in Russia before she and her husband heard the call to move to the United States. The Lord had spoken to them and told them to come to America and serve here. She, her husband and five children have moved into my neighborhood. She was visiting each house offering her bread. You see, she bakes bread and muffins and sells them. She prays over every loaf and for those who will eat them. While listening to her share her story I couldn’t help but be intrigued by this unique way of evangelizing.

I explained that I too was a Christian and she nodded in agreement. Then she told me that our meeting was a divine appointment from God. He had sent her to my house with a message. She said, “God wants you to know He thinks about you all the time.” I listened as if she were telling me something I already knew. But did I?

Two weeks have passed since our meeting and I cannot help but think of that statement, God thinks about me all the time. He doesn’t just think of me when I pray. His thoughts are not for me only when I am in trouble or experiencing triumph.  The Creator of heaven and earth truly thinks of me every minute of every day. The simple but yet profound truth of those words have penetrated my heart and brought me great comfort.

That woman had no idea who she was talking to that day. She had no idea what I was dealing with or the internal struggle I was having. But I know, she was Jesus standing on my doorstep with a message of hope and comfort.

I don’t know what you are dealing with today; whether it is something good or bad. But I know this; God is thinking about you. Even while you sleep, He thinks of you. I hope you can find comfort in those simple words. I pray they will be a balm to any wound you may be suffering from.

Lord Jesus,

Thank you for loving us. Thank you for watching over us.

I pray we would remember that no matter what happens today,

You are thinking of us. You have not left us. You are close by.

Amen.

  1. This is a comforting thought. The fact that God thinks about us constantly, even when we are not thinking of Him, gives assurance and a sense of value. Thanks for sharing this story.

    1. Thank you for reading and commenting. You hit the nail on the head. I did feel valued and comforted. I was feeling a bit low that day, but the realization that God thinks of me all the time reminded me that His acceptance is not based on my actions, only His love.

  2. What reassurance. . . and He also “rejoices over us with singing.” What amazing truths! Looking forward to reading more of your posts, Lori.
